POSITION: Environmental Specialist
DEPARTMENT: Environmental
SALARY: $85,000 to $95,000


  • B.S. in Environmental Science or equivalent program
  • One to three years of experience in environmental management within the mining sector, heavy industry or equivalent.
  • Experience in environmental regulatory issues and monitoring.
  • Familiarity with Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) equipment and data gathering systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office: Excel and Word.
  • Familiarity with PLC systems.
  • Ability to read system diagrams and drawings
  • Ability to communicate with internal and external customers including presentations to company, public and professional groups.
  • Strong knowledge of State of California and Federal environmental regulations.


  • Continuously interact with State regulators, non-governmental organizations, community leaders and plant operations personnel
  • Focus on ensuring proper permits and licenses are maintained to ensure plant operations continue.
  • Writing, reviewing, and editing technical environmental reports
  • Overseeing the plant Environmental Specialist
  • Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS): Learn basic operation and maintenance of all monitors. Assist Electrical Maintenance in maintaining monitors. Check for data quality on a daily basis. Check Data Acquisition System (DAS) on a daily basis and keep up all quality control measures. Update CEMS QC documents and spare parts inventory. Produce periodic reports for submittal to agencies. Learn regulatory requirements for CEMS.
  • Maintain certification for Visual Emissions Evaluations (VEE), maintain documentation of site readings, and assist in completing required readings.
  • Learn regulatory requirements for water monitoring, including water discharge, storm water, septic system. Perform required periodic monitoring and prepare reports for submittal. Learn new requirements for storm water monitoring, recently adopted.
  • Assist in Agency inspections as needed.

Job Description

  • Obtain certification for Underground Tank “Designated Operator” and perform periodic monitoring as required.
  • Interacting with health and safety team to ensure standards, policies and regulations are adhered to.
  • Other duties as assigned.
